Medicare 101

Part A: This is Hospital Insurance, which is guaranteed for those age 65+ or disabled.  Most people do not need to pay a monthly Premium for Part A.

Part B:   This is Medical Insurance intended to replace your current medical coverage.   Your coverage starts/started on the dates listed on your Medicare ID card.  Your Part B premium is drawn from your social security, if enrolled.

Part C:  Also known as an Advantage plan.  It is a  Medicare-approved plan from a private company that offers a "bundle" of in-network doctors, a built in drug plan, vision, dental and hearing coverage.

Medigap Insurance, also referred to as a supplement, is available in letters GN.  These plans can help "fill in the gaps" that Original Medicare does not cover. such as co-payments, co-insurance, supplies and deductibles.

Part D: A Prescription Drug Plan (PDP), can aid in the assistance of medication prices.  If you have a supplement and DO NOT have a PDP, there may be late enrollment penalties.  Understanding the rules can help in making informed decisions.
